Event Two: 7th March - Launch of the Newcastle Poetry Festival Programme 2019

I arrived early and as last time, took a seat at the back. I started taking photos of the room and the event to upload to their social media throughout the event. A friend from my course happened to be at the event for her creative writing module and so she sat with me and chatted away about the event.

This event was the launch of the Newcastle Poetry Festival 2019, starring two young poets, Rebecca Tamas and Rachel Allen.

Sinead introduced the event and gave a lengthy speech on the upcoming festival, talking about the events, the poets that would be coming, the workshops offered, offers that were taking place on tickets, and how to get involved. It was clear that they were offering a wide range of opportunities during the event.

Rebecca was the first poet to read from her new collection Witch. I wasn't sure about her poetry... particularly the first poem 'How to Hex off a Penis'... It all seemed quite angry and intense. However, the reading was good and she was very confident with it.

I preferred the poetry of the next girl, it was more my sort of thing, however, she herself wasn't the best at performing, you could tell that she was nervous and she did her best.

I popped photos up on Instagram, tweeted about what was going on and engaged with their followers throughout the event and once the readings were complete we all left the hall.
