I came in as usual for 9am and I was instantly set the task of working on the website for the Poetry festival that is coming up in March. I was set the task of uploading images of authors and formatting the pages of author bios. I found this difficult as the software they were using was complicated, different pages kept jumping around everywhere and I had to keep double checking which pages were done, and which I had yet to do. Whilst doing this I chatted away to Pete, a volunteer for the company, talking to him about my uni work, my dissertation, as well as his recent trip to London with the company. Sinead popped in to talk John and she sat down with me; I talked her through what I was currently doing and she praised me on the hardwork I was doing as well as the help that I was giving the company. Her leadership style is very interesting, she has a positive personality and brings that to her work. I find that I am always comfortable around her.

John was stressed as he had to fly a poet over from New York for the launch of the festival programme this week, the partner company for this event had said that they would take care of travel and they and let him down on this. As a result, flight costs were now sky high. He is obviously a very organised person and this disorganisation from another company cause him a lot of hassle.

Once this was completed I was then set the task of adding the event descriptions to the website and working on a little bit of coding to take customers to the webstore to buy their tickets. Everybody had popped out of the office for a meeting and so I was left to work on my own for the next half an hour or so. I didn't hit any problems with this task and I managed to get it finished on time.

Following this task, I had a conversation with John about some work that I undertook a few weeks ago, namely, a spreadsheet containing the books and publications of the poets taking place in the festival. He told me that some had dropped out and others had joined and that the list needed to be amended again. And so I spent the rest of my time researching the poets on the list and making note of their recent publications, the publishers, and the price and ISBN of the book. It was quite mundane work, however it was a job that had to be done and it means that they have one less thing on their plate. Once this was complete I left the office for the day.
