Day One

I headed into the office to start my day at 9am. My first day was mainly made up of admin-like tasks that covered a wide range of areas looked at by the company. As I arrived, John, one of the NCLA team, informed me of the events taht they had coming up, such as a conversation with Sarah Moss about her new book Ghostwall, as well as the launch of their Poetry Festival 2019 programme with poet Terrance Hayes. My first task was to sign into their different social media platforms and spread the word online about upcoming events, as well as their two poetry competitions for poets of all ages.

On their social media I designed posts aimed at different audiences for the events, such as tweets aimed at young people for the young poets competition. I found images of their competition and events posters to align with their tweets, particularly for their Instagram feeds which is a very visual platform.

I finished off these tasks and started another that was allocated to me. I was emailed a spreadsheet by Theresa, another member of the team, that contained their mailing list. She asked me to go through their email inbox, of which she gave me the details, and to make note in the spreadsheet of everybody who had replied saying that they were attending their All Party Poetry Group (A poetry meeting for members of all political parties to meet and discuss poetry as well as current politics). As I went through the emails I noticed taht many had responded saying that they couldn't attend but they still wanted to be kept up to date with what happens. Therefore, I added a column in the spreadsheet to account for these individuals, marking that they had replied, but that they were unable to attend. I went through the rest of the contacts, updating who would be attending the meeting, which was to take place in London.

After completing this task they sent me to grab some lunch, and seeing as I have a lecture from 2-3, I was also given leave to attend this. It's handy that the NCLA office is in the Percy building, making it easy to pop out for class and then return. After my lecture I headed back up to the office, however Theresa didn't have anything else for me to do that day and so sent me off home. It was an interesting first day, however I hope to have more tasks to do in future.
