Welcome to Leggo Consulting

Leggo Consulting uses dynamic simulation modelling (DSM) software to analysis the internal environment of both new and existing buildings.
Full DSM can assist architects and other design professionals to understand how design decisions influence energy consumption, thermal comfort, carbon dioxide emissions and other building performances.
TAS accredited thermal modelling software is used to produce dynamic models to assess the performance of buildings. Thermal modelling allows complex energy relationships that occur in buildings to be understood and quantified.

Part L compliance calculations
Over the year, as Part L has been updated, complying with building emission targets has become more demanding. Using Dynamic Simulation Modelling (DSM) for Part L ensures potential CO2 savings can be realised by getting the full benefit of building geometry, fabric, lighting and HVAC systems going into the design. At Leggo Consulting DSM is used for all buildings from the simplest to the most complex.

Sunlight and daylight analysis;
The BRE Report ‘Site layout planning for daylight and sunlight: a guide to good practice’ is often used to guide decisions by Local Authorities over planning applications. We can provide design advice and reports to confirm that new developments meet planning requirements both for the development itself and the impact it has on neighbouring properties.

Overheating studies (CIBSE Guide A, BB101, TM52 and future climate predictions);
The term ‘overheating’ refers to discomfort to occupants caused by the accumulation of warmth within a building. It is considered to be a growing problem in the UK due to climate change, the urban heat island effect, electronic equipment, and increasing amounts of glazing. We can provide design advice and reports to remediate predicted overheating in schools (BB101), non-domestic buildings (TM52 and CIBSE Guide A), as well as future climate scenarios using weather data produced by Exeter University.

Load calculations for plant sizing;
Space heating and cooling loads for plant sizing using dynamic simulation modelling which captures the dynamic relationship between internal and external environments.

Sustainability/Feasibility Reports and Energy/Carbon Statements for planning
Many planning authorities now require a planning application to include a comprehensive Renewable Energy Feasibility Statement for a development. Due to the lack of a nationwide policy, feasibility studies will vary between Local Authorities. Many Local Authorities will require a reduction in Energy and many will require a reduction in Carbon. Different Local Authorities will also ask for different reductions, some will require a 10% reduction, whereas others may require a 20% reduction or more using renewable energy. We will liaise with the Loca

Planning

Councils increasingly require a variety of reports to cover issues that are taken into consideration when determining new Planning Applications.
Leggo Consulting will liaise with the Local Authority to determine the planning requirements and work with you to ensure full compliance. All necessary reports can be supplied in the following areas:
Sustainability Assessments;
Energy Statements;
Daylight and Sunlight Analysis (external and internal)

Building Regulations

DSM (Dynamic Simulation Modelling) is used at Leggo Consultancy to produce compliance documents for Part L and EPC ratings. This can offer significant benefits over the simpler SBEM method. The more complex methodology can offer significant reductions in the calculated ‘Building Emission Rate’ through more sophisticated modelling software and methods. This can reduce the requirements for costly building fabric, mechanical and electrical services, and renewable systems.
Buildings utilising passive and active natural ventilation strategies, solar control devices and high thermal mass design can benefit from DSM modelling in achieving Part L compliance and EPC asset rating targets.

Furthermore, once a3D model has been created additional assessments can be carried out using the same model. These include thermal comfort and natural lighting assessments for the purposes of BREEAM credits.
